Newly Sighted Fail To Match `Seen with Felt'

Hello TAL fans, sorry for the lack of posts - occasionally TAL will suffer from that perhaps. Anyway, back to the gig. And, today, for the higher intelligent AnomalyMan Listing readers mentality - cool science article - a tease:
Would a blind subject, on regaining sight, be able to immediately visually recognize an object previously known only by touch? We addressed this question, first formulated by Molyneux three centuries ago, by working with treatable, congenitally blind individuals. We tested their ability to visually match an object to a haptically sensed sample after sight restoration.
You have to read how they got the `data' for this study, ie:how the people were `found' for this research. And, this was one of the key nuggets:
Whatever linkage between vision and touch may pre-exist concomitant exposure of both senses, it is insufficient for reconciling the identity of the separate sensory representations. However, this ability can apparently be acquired after short real-world experiences. An alternative explanation to the progression in haptic-visual cross-modal abilities is a rapid increase in the visual ability to create a three-dimensional representation, thus allowing for a more accurate mapping between haptic structures and visual ones. This seems to run counter, however, to the observed slow progression

Ready for a HEAVY read? Yep, Lujan Matus and friends lay it all out in a read that will sweep you away. A tease:
What a wonderful metaphor for our life it is, that in order to claim our personal power we have to sensitively react to our surroundings and follow the way we are meant to walk rather than enforcing our will onto our surroundings and go wherever we want to go. Such are the Tears: they transcend into all layers of our life. The practice will begin in that half an hour or so daily and the principles realized will find their way into every interaction we engage in. It is truly an act of magic.

For One Tiny Instant, Physicists May Have Broken a Law of Nature

TAL readers are a notch above in intelligence - let your mind tackle this cutting edge science link - http://opac.yale.edu/news/article.aspx?id=7358 - here's a tease:
The team created something called a quark-gluon plasma — a kind of "soup" that results when energies reach high enough levels to break up protons and neutrons into their constituent quarks and gluons, the fundamental building blocks of matter.
Theorists believe this kind of quark-gluon plasma, which has a temperature of four trillion degrees Celsius, existed just after the Big Bang, when the universe was only a microsecond old. The plasma "bubble" created in the collisions at RHIC lasted for a mere millionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second, yet the team hopes to use it to learn more about how structure in the universe — from black holes to galaxies — may have formed out of the soup.
